What Does Your Hosiery Say About You?

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Looking for a promotion? You might want to start thinking about what to wear on your legs.

Whilst I’m sure your ability plays a contributing part (as well as your gender and age, if this week’s ‘positive discrimination’ topic is to be believed.) according to The Wall Street Journal, the colour and style of your tights also plays an important role.

Wool tights remind us of our school days, and being on the playground. Wearing these in the office is un-likely to get us any further than office

assistant. If you’re looking for a promotion, it’s better to leave wool tights for the weekend.

This season’s Punk trend, as seen on catwalks such as Balmain, Burberry and Balenciaga is also best saved for evenings and weekends, especially if you work in the financial sector. Patty Edwards, commented how she’s “not likely to feel good leaving my money there” with someone dressed like a Goth. So the super on trend Pretty Polly Shredded Tights are more suitable after work!

If you’re looking for a promotion, it’s best to take the advice of Sarah Whittaker, an image consultant, who explains that purple is a power colour; those who wear purple tights are most likely to be perceived as being in control. Better stock up on purple tights now!

Artic temperatures still to come; can tights keep you warm?

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

There have been reports that this winter is the coldest in a decade, weather forcasts are also predicting lows of -10 C (14F).
It has felt particularly cold across England and Wales due to a strong wind from the North. Cold weather means that keeping warm is essential and we would like to share some of the tips we have found that have kept us warm.
Layering is excellent for keeping your body warm even if you do own a thick winter coat, wearing a few layers underneath will make sure you won’t feel the cold. Layering can also be applied to hosiery, try layering a high denier pair of tights with knee high socks. Marie 100% cotton fine rib knee highs from Jonathan Aston are ideal for this look. They look fantastic worn scrunched down with ankle boots and they are great for achieving laid back style.

If you are having trouble with keeping your feet warm then replace your old socks with elle bamboo socks, these are made from new fibres extracted from bamboo. These socks have a remarkable micro-structure and allow your feet to be significantly warmer. At the low cost of £6.99 these socks are well worth investing in and also the bamboo fibre is better for the environment since it is 100% biodegradable and self-sustaining due to the plants rapid growth.

The cast of fame had the right idea with legwarmers, this accessory is a favourite with gymnasts and dancers. This accessory can keep you surprisingly warm and give an outfit a touch of fashionable active wear style. Striggings plain leg warmers from Falke are unbelievably thick. They are made from a blend of cashmere and wool and for ultimate luxury should be worn over thick tights.

Feeling Sheepish in Wool Tights

If you have started to feel the cold then wool tights are perfect! The thickness and softness make them the perfect accessory for icy mornings. I am personally a massive fan and if I don’t wear them to work in the day, I usually put on a pair when I get home.

The great thing about wool tights is that because wool is a natural fibre it has lots of qualities that make it pefect for the cold as it traps warmth!
This season doesn’t need to be about covering up, and tights are great for showing your legs off but saving the shivers.

Whilst wearing Levante wool tights, I get nostalgic memories of being younger and over Christmas wearing thick tights to keep warm and now they are all back again. Thick and chunky hosiery is a real trend and updates an outfit giving it a stylish twist. Although the selection of tights are thick they could never be described as bulky and are actually very flattering!
Wool tights are a staple item and the best thing of all is that they are almost impossible to ladder!
